Imou (appli & cloud)
Tested on our bench
- Vendor
- Imou (Dahua)
- License
- Gratuit avec le matériel Imou ; stockage cloud Imou Protect sur abonnement
- Platforms
- app mobile iOS/Android
The camera maker's own app and cloud (Imou Life app, Imou Cloud/Protect). Cloud- and account-centric; Imou is Dahua's consumer brand. Benchmarked on our own test bench.
Strengths
- Imou cameras run Dahua firmware exposing standard local RTSP/ONVIF and microSD recording — a real escape hatch to record locally without the Imou cloud.
- A user-set 'Customize Video Encryption' password is available on cameras.
Limitations
- Cloud- and account-mandatory; remote access is relayed through Dahua-operated P2P servers; only Imou-brand devices are managed.
- Mobile app only — no official desktop or web client.
- Dahua-affiliated (partly Chinese-state-linked) with a documented CVE history (e.g. CVE-2023-6913 app session hijacking; CVE-2021-33044 auth bypass); the cloud encryption scheme and key custody are not independently verified.
- Facial recognition is limited to specific NVR/lock products; cameras do human detection only.
